Something about the word ‘Intensity’ scares me. It reminds me of those High-Intensity work-outs. the ones with the heart racing, sweats dripping, out of breathe, grinding your teeth while trying to take one more push on that push-up. Yea, that’s definitely not for me. I’m still trying to get through a normal cardio day at the gym. But after seeing my not so bad medical checkup results, I’m now thinking that I may want to take my exercise regime up a notch.
Often, we get too comfortable in our current headspace. If we aren’t mindful, we become complacent with everything in our lives – our jobs, our health, relationships and our dreams. Sometimes we don’t see our full potential until something shakes up our world, disrupts our comfort zone and makes us re-think our priorities.
Ever wondered what you could accomplish if you just pushed a little bit more? If you took just one more step. If you penned down just one more line in your new book or even made that one call to that prospective investor. I know it’s easier said than done but think about it. What’s the alternative to not trying at all? “Erm….I”m good and that’s good enough” You might say. Is it really?
I’m currently reading a book called “Treasure” by Ed Cole and a couple of quotes in the second chapter struck me:
“Good is the enemy of Best.”
“If you know you can do better, then you haven’t done your Best'”
Aren’t those profound? I think they are. I mean, why settle for less when you can be the best version of you? Whether it’s in your career, business or that dream you have had for so long but haven’t done anything about it or perhaps you started but kept it on a long pause. You can definitely do much more if you can increase your intensity just a little bit more. Or, does the thought of “Intensity” scare you like it does for me? I learnt a trick. Don’t throw yourself in it. It will overwhelm you. Instead, start small and take it one step at a time. One foot after another, one line on that new book after another, one more call for that business proposal. Before you know it, you are increasing your intensity and becoming the best version of you.
Don’t throw in the towel just yet. Increase your intensity with small steps and you will be amazed at what you will accomplish over time.
