Supporting Makoko
Supporting Education in Makoko
The Wells of Treasure Foundation is deeply committed to making a difference in communities across the globe. One such community that has been at the heart of our work is Makoko, an informal settlement located on the coast of mainland Lagos, Nigeria.
Makoko: The Venice of Africa
Often referred to as the “Venice of Africa,” Makoko is a unique community where a third of its population live on stilts in a lagoon off the Lagos mainland. This aquatic shanty town, home to a variety of riverine communities along Nigeria’s coast, faces numerous challenges, including a lack of basic amenities and infrastructural shortcomings.
Our Intervention: Equip To Enrich in Makoko
In light of these challenges, our ‘Equip To Enrich’ initiative has taken a step forward to partner with The Pearl Foundation for Mental Health and Education, to support the education sector in Makoko. We understand that a conducive learning environment is crucial for children’s academic success. The children in these schools sit on bare floors to receive education. Hence, we extended our support to a school in Makoko by providing chairs and tables.
These chairs and tables are more than just pieces of furniture; they represent our commitment to creating an environment conducive for learning. By providing these essentials, we aim to enhance the comfort and learning experiences of the students, enabling them to focus better on their studies.
